Council of the competition determines the recipient of the prize. The council includes current and former judges of international courts and tribunals, current and former legal advisers to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and leading academics from Russia and other countries.
In 2016 the council awarded the prize to Mr Aleksei Petrenko, a doctoral student at the University of Göttingen and a graduate of the Immanuil Kant Baltic Federal University (Kalinigrad) and University of Göttingen. His paper on application of WTO law to economic sanctions introduced by states can be found here.
In 2015 the council awarded the prize to Mr Grigory Vaypan, the head of constitutional litigation practice of the Institute of Law and Public Policy and a graduate of the Lomonosov Moscow State University and Harvard Law School.
