Achieving gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls remains one of the number one problems faced by humanity. It has been acknowledged on multiple levels, including the Council of Europe which contributes actively to the work regarding the achievement of the respective Sustainable Development Goal.
Thanks to the serious attention paid to this issue at the national and international levels, significant results have been achieved in this direction. Non-governmental organizations and activists defending women’s rights also play an important role. However, some difficulties remain, one of which is the problem of domestic violence, which has become even more urgent during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the discussion on the need to adopt legislation to prevent domestic violence has become even more active.
In order to draw attention to the problems experienced by women, the International and Comparative Law Research Center is organizing a roundtable on gender equality and domestic violence.
