Нилюфер Орал — директор Центра международного права при Национальном университете Сингапура. Она является членом Комиссии международного права ООН (КМП) и занимала пост председателя 74-й сессии КМП. Является сопредседателем Исследовательской группы КМП по вопросам повышения уровня моря в контексте международного права. Она была избрана членом кураториума Гаагской академии международного права и является ассоциированным членом Международного института международного права. Была юридическим советником и переговорщиком по вопросам изменения климата в МИД Турции (2009-2016 гг.). В настоящее время она является членом Комитета юридических экспертов Комиссии малых островных государств по изменению климата и международному праву (COSIS). Является редактором серии «Международные проливы мира» (Brill). Публиковала работы по различным темам, связанным с морским правом, изменением климата и экологическим правом.
