The moot court competition “Dispute Resolution in the EAEU 2023”
On December 24, 2023, the moot court competition “Dispute Resolution in the EAEU 2023”, organized by the Chair of International Law of the Russian State University of Justice with the support of the ICLRC and the Russian Arbitration Center at Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration has come to an end.
The topics of the 2023 competition case were: competence of the EAEU Court, peculiarities of patenting within the framework of Eurasian Patent Office, arbitrability of intellectual property disputes, introduction of provisional measures by the EAEU Court, the use of artificial intelligence in the adjudgement of arbitration award, conjugation of the Eurasian Economic Union and Eurasian Patent Office.
18 teams from 7 countries took part in the competition, namely, Eurasian “five” countries, Uzbekistan, and Sierra Leone. 13 teams took part in the written stage of the competition. Ten of them competed in the oral stage, and the four teams have come to the final round.
The teams of the HSE University, Ural State Law University named after V.F. Yakovlev, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation participated in the semi-final stage. The MSU and HSE University teams became finalists.
The final round was preceded by a conference “Court of the Eurasian Economic Union: on the threshold of change”. The judge of the EAEU Court, Head of the Chair of International Law of the Russian State University of Justice T. Neshataeva, the ICLRC’s General Director
Y. Mullina, and the competition’s administrator, the judicial counsel of the EAEU Court P. Myslivskiy made welcoming remarks.
The judges of the final round were the President of the Eurasian Patent Office G. Ivliev, the judge of the EAEU Court G. Skripkina, deputy chairman of the Arbitration Court of the Moscow Region Y. Bogatina.
The Lomonosov Moscow State University team (students Angelina Kameneva, Veronika Mironova, Angela Shmakova, Sergey Grebenyuk under the guidance of their mentor Acting Head of the Department of International Law О. Kadysheva) became the winner of the competition. Advisor to the Rectorate of the Russian State University of Justice
V. Zimin presented to the MSU team a certificate from the ICLRC for the purchase of international legal literature. The HSE University team (students Аlexandra Chobotova, Roman Abrashin under the guidance of their mentors Y. Prigoda and V. Matorina) became the vice-champion.
The best speaker of the final round was Аlexandra Chobotova, who received a subscription on the International Justice Journal.
The teams of the Ural State Law University named after V.F. Yakovlev (students Victor Balakaev, Ksenia Kryazhevskich, Elizaveta Zavyalova) and Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation (students Valeria Tormozova, Dmitriy Nuzhdin, Olga Semyonova, Artemiy Stolyarov, and their mentor E. Sviridova) were recognized as bronze medalists.
The best in nomination “Best speaker” were:
1 place – Victor Balakaev (Ural State Law University named after
V.F. Yakovlev. He was invited to participate in the Summer School of public international law);
2 place – Ksenia Kryazhevskich (Ural State Law University named after V.F. Yakovlev);
3 place – Alexandra Chobotova (HSE University).
The best in nomination “Best written paper” were:
1 place – HSE University;
2 place – Russian State University of Justice;
3 place – Lomonosov Moscow State University.
