Exercise of Criminal Jurisdiction by Germany and International Law. Courses of the Summer School on Public International Law
The lectures delivered by Manfred Dauster, Presiding Judge of the Bavarian Supreme Court, during the 2020 Summer School on Public International Law, examine the exercise of Germany’s criminal jurisdiction within the framework of international law. They explore the theoretical foundations of the interaction between national and international criminal law, focusing on jurisdictional principles, the application of international criminal law by domestic courts, and its relationship with Germany’s Basic Law. The historical and legal evolution of German criminal jurisdiction is traced, from constitutional provisions in the 19th century and the development of international criminal law after World War II to contemporary mechanisms for prosecuting international crimes.
