National Jurisdiction and International Law. Courses of the Summer School on Public International Law

The lectures delivered by Cedric Ryngaert, Professor of International Law, during the 2019 Summer School on Public International Law, examine jurisdiction in international law. They analyse the principles of territorial, extraterritorial, personal, and universal jurisdiction, as well as the distinction between prescriptive, adjudicative, and enforcement jurisdiction. The lectures explore international responsibility for breaches of jurisdictional norms, mechanisms for resolving jurisdictional conflicts, and relevant case law from international courts. The impact of globalisation on the expansion of extraterritorial legislation and the legal disputes it generates is also discussed.
