The ICLRC is accredited with UNEP
The ICLRC has received accreditation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), as well as an observer status in the UN Environment Assembly, the UNEP managing body.
UNEP is the global authority that sets the environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, takes part in the development of international conventions and co-operate with states and non-governmental organizations.
Within the new status, the Center has become a part of the NGO Major Groups, one of the most influential in the UNEP. This enables the Center to:
- Receive unedited working documents in the run-up to the sessions of the UN Environment Assembly and submit written contributions to these documents;
- Participate in all public meetings of the UN Environment Assembly subsidiary organs such as the Committee of Permanent Representatives;
- Participate in the Plenary, the Committee of the Whole and the Ministerial Consultations discussions as observers during the sessions of the UN Environment Assembly;
- Circulate written statements to Governments through the UNEP Secretariat and make oral statements during the discussions.
We are glad that the Center has become one of the organizations, which received the accreditation status and appreciate the confidence of the UN Environment Programme towards us.
