Meeting with Professor Teresa Cheng

On 16 September 2024, the International and Comparative Law Research Center will host an open meeting with Professor Teresa Cheng to discuss the future development of the investor-state dispute settlement. 

Professor Teresa Cheng is a Senior Counsel, former Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong SAR, Chartered Arbitrator and Mediator. She is one of the leading experts in the field of investment law and investment arbitration in Asia and specializes in a wide range of legal areas, including international commercial contracts and investment arbitration. Professor Cheng has been awarded the highest state award of Hong Kong and a number of honorary titles (GBM GBS SC JP). She is an experienced practitioner in international arbitration and mediation and frequently engaged as counsel or arbitrator in complex international commercial / investment disputes.

Professor Cheng is one of the founder members of the Asian Academy of International Law (AAIL), Honorary professor of the China University of Political Science and Law, Director of the International Arbitration and Dispute Settlement Course at the Law School of Tsinghua University, and an associate professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Professor Cheng shared her rich experience and perspective on the future of the foreign investor-state dispute settlement system and answered numerous questions from the audience. 

The meeting concluded with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the International and Comparative Law Research Center and the Asian Academy of International Law.
