Education

In 2016, Aleksei completed his Bachelor of Laws at the Law School of St. Petersburg State University, where in 2018 he also obtained a Master of Laws with a specialization in civil law, family law, and private international law. In 2018–2019, he took the course "International Economic Law" (320 academic hours, taught in German), a joint programme of St. Petersburg State University, the University of Hamburg, and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

Aleksei subsequently continued his studies at leading European and American universities. In 2020, he obtained an LL.M. degree from the University of Hamburg (economic analysis of law, international and German law). In 2022, he completed the European Master in Law and Economics (EMLE), studying at the University of Hamburg, Ghent University, and LUMSA (Rome). In 2023, he obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (economic analysis of law, international and US law). Aleksei's master's theses addressed various legal and economic aspects of protecting the weak party in a contract.

Aleksei is currently about to begin his doctoral research at City University of Hong Kong. His research will focus on climate litigation and on the question of states' compliance with their international climate obligations, with particular attention to the experience of the Global South. This research will continue the work carried out on the project "Climate Litigation: Why and How Does It Promote Stricter Compliance with International Climate Change Obligations?" under the Center's Scholarship for Young International Law Researchers.

Professional Experience

From 2018 to 2021, Aleksei worked as a Senior Lawyer at PJSC BANK URALSIB (St. Petersburg). His responsibilities included the analysis of clients' corporate and incorporation documents and collateral evaluation; the drafting of loan and security agreements (pledges and mortgages); the analysis of the legal risks of transactions; and the preparation of memoranda for the Bank's credit committees. Aleksei also repeatedly analysed and edited draft laws and draft resolutions of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation at the request of the Association of Banks of Russia.

Since 2023, Aleksei has been teaching at O.P. Jindal Global University (India) as an Assistant Professor. He teaches courses in International Human Rights Law, Jurisprudence, Transitional Justice, Economic Analysis of Law, and Moot Court and Trial Advocacy; conducts research and supervises student research papers; and takes part in the development of international academic collaboration.

Aleksei actively collaborates with the International and Comparative Law Research Center: he took part in the Center's Summer School on Public International Law in 2024 and 2025, and in 2026 he was awarded the Center's Scholarship for Young International Law Researchers.
