This volume contains the text of two lectures and a seminar delivered by Ms Ida Caracciolo, Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, during the 2024 Summer School on Public International Law. They cover a general theory of obligations in international law and discuss such categories as obligations erga omnes and erga omnes partes, as well as obligations of conduct and obligations of result.

Consultant, as a legal expert, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Legal Service from 1994 until 2020, participating as a member of the Italian delegation in various bodies and committees of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union and in various multilateral and bilateral negotiations. Member of several scientific associations and of scientific committees of journals and series on international law and European Union law. Editor of two scientific series on respectively international law and European Union law and International Humanitarian law. Author of several volumes and around eighty articles (in Italian, English and French) on international law, international law of the sea, international protection of human rights, international humanitarian law. She is the editor of eleven volumes, some also in English.
