Seabed Mineral Resources Beyond National Jurisdiction: Review of Current Issues
The World Ocean holds significant amounts of minerals, and the seabed mineral resources contain various metals so essential to modern industry. At the same time, the World Ocean is one of the main biodiversity repositories and a rather fragile ecosystem.
A new Center's review (in Russian) describes the current instruments to regulate activities related to seabed resources beyond national jurisdiction, status of work under the rules for extracting these resources, and initiatives to impose a moratorium on it.
