The scholar Aisylu Latypova presents the results of her research
On 24 June 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (UTC+3), Aisylu Latypova will present the results of her research. The event will be held in person in the ICLRC library (14 bldg. 3 Kadashevskaya Embankment), in Russian.
Aisylu is a participant of the Scholarship for Young International Law Researchers. She is working on a research project “Artificial Intelligence as a ‘Grotian moment’: a systematic approach to an unsystematic issue”.
This presentation explores artificial intelligence (AI) as a potential “Grotian moment” — a transformative event capable of reshaping the foundations of international law. In the context of fragmented and lagging AI regulation at national and international levels, it is suggested that the concept of GM should be used as an analytical tool. This approach enables a systemic assessment of the scope and depth of AI’s impact on the international legal order, including humanitarian law, human rights law, and the law of international responsibility. The research identifies criteria for recognizing a Grotian Moment based on historical precedents and legal doctrine, analyzes potential changes to the legal system, and considers alternative strategies for responding to the challenges posed by AI.
